🤔 Where to Apply for Polish Citizenship

Applications are submitted through the voivode (Urząd Wojewódzki). Applicants residing abroad should contact the consulate in their place of residence.

You need to bring all the necessary documents and fill out the application for Polish citizenship, which you will receive at the office.

🕒 Waiting time

Application for recognition as a Polish citizen must be processed within 60 days.

No time limits are set for requests addressed to the President of Poland. The process can take a year or longer. The President of Poland is not required to provide any interim updates — only to notify the applicant of the decision once it has been made.

🚫 Reasons for Rejection

A foreign national will be denied Polish citizenship if they do not meet the mandatory requirements, as well as in cases where their acquisition of Polish citizenship poses a threat to national defense or security, or to public safety and order.

In practice, there have been cases where applications for citizenship based on permanent residence were denied due to traffic fines (even if they had been paid).

The President of the Republic of Poland may deny the application without providing a reason.

An appeal against the decision of the voivode or consul may be filed within 14 days through the same authorities to which the original application was submitted. The President’s decision is not subject to appeal.
