🍺 Where to Drink Alcohol and Smoke

Alcohol may be consumed legally only from 18 years old in:

  • Bars
  • Restaurants
  • Cafés
  • Nightclubs
  • Licensed Beer Gardens
  • Private Homes
  • Private Gardens
  • Private Events

Some cities also designate specific public areas where alcohol consumption is permitted. These areas are established by local authorities and are clearly marked. In Warsaw, for example, you can legally drink only at the Wisła River Boulevards under the bridges.


🚫 Where Drinking Alcohol Is Prohibited

Unless a local authority has created an exception, drinking alcohol is prohibited in most public places, including:

  • Streets
  • Sidewalks
  • Parks
  • Public Squares
  • Bus Stops
  • Tram Stops
  • Train Stations
  • Public Transport
  • Playgrounds
  • School Grounds
  • Beaches Without Local Permission

❗The standard fine for drinking alcohol in a prohibited public place is usually 100 PLN.


🕒 Alcohol Sales Hours

There is no nationwide restriction on alcohol sales hours.

However, municipalities may introduce local bans.

For example, since 1 June 2026, Warsaw prohibits the sale of alcohol in shops, kiosks and petrol stations between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM. Restaurants, bars and clubs are not affected.

Smoking cigarettes and vaping is prohibited in many public places, including:

  • Bus Stops
  • Tram Stops
  • Railway Platforms
  • Schools
  • Hospitals
  • Medical Clinics
  • Government Offices
  • Universities In Many Indoor Areas
  • Shopping Centres
  • Restaurants Unless They Have A Designated Smoking Room
  • Public Transport
  • Airports Except Smoking Areas
